Mykhailo Fedorov discussed with Meta the blocking of Ukrainians on Facebook and Instagram
Yesterday, Minister of Digital Transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov, announced on his Telegram channel that he receives many messages from bloggers, the media community, activists and ordinary users about blocking posts and accounts on Facebook and Instagram. He says that the Ministry of Digital constantly communicates with the Meta Corporation, which has even allocated a separate team for it to quickly respond to various requests. In recent months, Meta has helped unblock dozens of pages of public people. However, according to Fedorov, this is a temporary solution.
Recently, the Ministry of Digital met in Brussels with Meta’s President of Global Policy, Nick Clegg, to discuss the launch of new functional updates for Ukrainians and, of course, content moderation in Ukraine.
“We have a brutal war going on, so it is unfair to moderate Ukrainian content according to the rules of peacetime. Social networks were created to tell the truth. Millions of Ukrainians have united since the first day of the war and are acting as a single information front. Spread the news on social networks, collect funds for the army, doctors and people who have lost everything. Every activist, blogger, volunteer uses his trust and reputation for a good cause.” Mykhailo Fedorov.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Digital wrote a letter to Nick Clegg and asked him to improve the quality of moderation. So that the posts of Ukrainians are no longer hidden, and accounts are not blocked.
Fedorov declares that the Meta corporation helps Ukraine a lot. She blocks Russian propaganda resources, she finally made a Ukrainian version of Facebook for iPhone and iPad, launched a training center for Ukrainian small and medium-sized businesses together with Diya.Business. In addition, the company has yet to launch the Ukrainian language in the Messenger application.
